Especially the traditional

French cutleries in polished version are as if predestined for the silver plating, as for example the pattern Verlaine Miroir or Beau Manoir. However, in addition some of the models in modern design are also plated with the soft silver shine - of course elaborated with the same qualities of the stainless steel cutleries. The silver coating is applied with an electrolytic procedure in the factory in Normandy, where the other high-quality cutleries are produced as well. All high-quality cutleries still today are made in the factory built 1960 in the province Calvados in France.

Today Guy Degrenne is the biggest

European manufacturer of stainless steel cutleries and could set up after the lean beginnings during the postwar years as a worldwide brand and ambassador of the French dining-culture: Today the French company processes more than 2000 tons of steel per year for his products. And silvered cutleries are only a relatively small part of the assortment of Guy Degrenne: They fit to the unobtrusively elegant concepts like Boreal Ellipse and Swing, or the Gallon Platine of the same company best of all. And also together with the timeless dishes Esquisse from the same house silver cutlery of Guy Degrenne perfomes well.

material

silverplated

Silvered objects do not differ optically from massively silver ones. The silver plating is a galvanised surface which is applied on a core from base material like steel, alpaca (German silver) or bronze. Steel is used especially for cutlery from great serial productions which can be produced cost-efficient. We find bronze particularly with candelabras and hollowware, while German silver with high-quality silver plated cutlery. Alpaca is an alloy of copper (Cu), nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn) and with his qualities similar to pure silver (Ag). Luxurious decors can be exact executed with this base material. The surface is galvanised with silver which quality is given in gramme per 12 table forks and table spoons - which are accepted with 24 dm². Then there occur names as 90, 100, 150, 180, with or without other additions. This designation mainly is use in Germany, objects of other origin have another - or none - name of the silver layer.
