Thomas Chippendale (1718-1779) embarked on building his own furniture designs, he would never have imagined that his name would become known for an entire style – Chippendale, a scaled-down British form following on the heels of European late Baroque and an alternative to Rococo.

Its design echoes the styling of "Altfaden" silverware (thread running around the handle) and Barock (in terms of shape).
