Wilkens cutleries in sterling

silver are respectable cutleries in a handy elegance which will grace your table every day. Cutlery from sterling silver is the king's class of the silver manufactures and the processing of sterling silver with Wilkens by far the longest tradition, the company already had begun to process sterling silver to hollowware at the beginning of the 19th century.

The range of sterling silver

cutleries reflects the tradition of the history of Wilkens. Mainly cutlery which are timeless beyond all stylish caprices, the models based on the old German patterns like Spaten (spade) or Augsburger Faden (Augsburg thread), to adaptations of the style created by Thomas Chippendale or the Dresdner Barock. To all these models common an is unexcited interpretation: with well formed handles and clear dimensions these cutleries are recommended for every day use the same as for representative occasions.

But also from the first century

of his company history Wilkens offers two unusual patterns: the Eremitage matt and the model Venezia poliert. Both are historical reproductions of cutleries from old times which are made on the original tools. This is the reason, why the model Eremitage for example is limited and numbered, a real collector's item. For the lovers of the Scandinavian design Wilkens still provides the model Classic from the sixties, designed by Arthur M. Georgy. With a long handle - typical for the time - and the short knife blades this pattern has turned out as a design favorite since over 50 years now. The modest dimensions and the functional proportions have made this cutlery a prominent example of this era.

Of course again absolutely in

front stands the cutlery Palladio polished by Ulla and Martin Kaufmann from the nineties of the last century, which is the most typical cutlery of Wilkens and unite all prominent qualities of Wilkens cutlery: a definite, but restrained design, excellent everyday qualities and a which meets highest requirements.

material

sterling silver

Silver is the first metal of which cutleries were made of and the material has the reputation to possess bactericidal qualities. A sterling cutlery of massive silver is even after decades an object of great value. Depending on the execution real silver objects are not made out of pure silver, but material silver (Ag) are mixed with copper (Cu). The proportionate mass of this alloy is specified in thousandth. So the 800th silver contains 80% of silver and 20% of copper, the 925th silver – also called sterling silver – 7.5% of copper and so on. Therefore, the color of the silver also differs slightly, depending to the percentage of copper in the alloy. Mainly for optical reasons massive silver is galvanized often with a layer of pure silver. Silver is marked with the punch which refers to the punch law of the country of origin. In Germany the imperial crown and the half moon has to be beside the brand of the manufacturer together with the thousandth number as a token for the real silver. In France, however, the head of Minerva in an octagon beside the punch of the manufacture is the juridically correct sign.
