This pattern takes its name from the small town of Cluny , situated in the center of France. In this town, in the X century, Benedictine monks built the Abbey of Cluny . It was once the most considerable medieval monument in the Occident. The sober, austere, architectural style of the abbey inspired this pattern with its lines bereft of superfluous ornamentation. A labour of love demands long hours of patience, understanding and attention. This flatware pattern has been created with such painstaking reverence as a labour of love demands. In the purity of its design, we sence the patience, love and understanding of the medieval monk and scholar. The Mood of this creation can be likened to the directness of the message of a liturgy, which itself is a work of the spirit and the hand.
